I’m getting the cow bell for my Christmas tree.

Problem is, if its cheaper, everyone runs to the doctor because of a caugh, witch pushes the prices for all of us. I havent been to the doctor since 5 years, so i actually pay for nothing right now. But as soon as there is a major problem, youll be more than happy about the insurance.

As a not-quite-but-sorta-Swiss: leave the gimmicky and widely available victorinox knives and get yourself some snacks to take home: basler leckerli or rahmtäfeli. You can probably take those on a plane if you leave them unopened and they're delicious snacks that don't spoil easily. Also, try thomy mayonnaise with lemon. It's great. If you really want a nice knife, get an Opinel, but get them at home. DO get those key chains and cow bells if you want. Heck, get a yodeling murmeli. Who cares. We once brought a tablecloth at a market on the 1st of August that we still use after years and years. Skip the widely available toblerone, but callier isn't all that special either. Get local local. If you're looking to spend, there's probably some bougie watches you could get but I don't think that's really a souvenir.

I am so lucky to live here. Came here 30 years ago and what I miss is my country and familly... Perfect is nowhere but if someone tries, can find a hair eve on egg. I pay abour 850 Fr for me and wife and franchise about 500 Fr during a year. So I think the Informaton she gave is really missleading. Anyway, it would be better to mention a good things you find in Switzerland that makes Switzerland as a one of the best countries in the world.

I totally agree with issues about the health insurance and I am Swiss. I don't know who invented this system but they are taking us all for a ride. It's crazyyyyy and not in a good way. About the quiet hours I can only say it really depends on where you live and who your neighbours are. Good luck!! 🍀

As a Swiss who has been to other countries, i can say that Switzerland is overrated, it is cool but not as cool as it is known for.

If you did not know things you just did not take the time for It. The first thing you must do before relocating IS gather info about the new country. However, I understand that complaining is much easier.

I’m in Switzerland right now and just left Grindelwald after 3 nights there. I can confirm it was absolutely beautiful but there are a lot of tourists which is to be expected anywhere in the world when it’s an over-glamorized destination especially on RUclips and social media and because of this, the area doesn’t have the friendliest people in the world unfortunately. I’m not sure if I’ll ever return or can even recommend Switzerland after these few days because far too many beautiful places with way more welcoming locals and people. Plus it’s very expensive so I will have to say, you can completely skip Switzerland in general. I was in Italy and it was such a dream and the Italians are so friendly and welcoming. Note: we came across a lot of friendly people in Switzerland and I understand locals are annoyed by the massive tourism however, in general, as I’ve traveled across the country, Switzerland aren’t exact known to have the friendliest people to begin with 😂 and I can confirm this is true. These are just my two cents.

While I generally agree with your points, it's absolutely worth mentioning that while there are definitely differences between German, French, and Italian speaking Switzerland, they are more similar to each other than Deutschschweiz is to Germany, Romandie/Welschland is to France, and especially Tessin to Italy (they really don't like being associated with Italy). There are of course jokes about how everyone in Welschland hates Geneva and says it's basically France and everyone in Deutschschweiz hates Zürich, but that's a different conversation

Yes. A functioning healthcare system is expensive. I much prefer a system that lets people feel this cost and gives them opportunities to choose a plan that suits their needs rather than taxing the s*** out of people and pretending that health care is “free” (hi NHS 👋) or basically having no proper system at all and letting people die, run into debt or cover expenses through taxpayer funded backup systems (looking at you USA). Why shouldn’t it be expensive to get good healthcare? Who should cover these costs otherwise? Btw: there are subsidies for people with low income. And swiss voters just rejected a system that would basically have meant that most premiums would have been covered by tax money. Yes, no system is perfect, but this one at least incentivises responsible behaviour.

Ahh..my country immigration will take that wine. 10/10 end up giving it to them or chuck the content to the bin. Most prefer the latter.
